Germany’s long injury list: These players will miss World Cup 2022!
Germany’s national coach Hansi Flick has already announced his powerful World Cup squad. However, the former Bayern coach is missing numerous important players who have to stay at home due to injuries.
The German team had to cope with the biggest shock on the last day of the UEFA Champions League group stage. Timo Werner, RB Leipzig’s goal-scoring striker, suffered a torn syndesmosis ligament in the match against Shakhtar Donetsk and will miss Germany at the World Cup.
This is a bitter loss for Flick and his team because Werner would have played an important role.

Leverkusen’s shooting star Florian Wirtz did not make it to the World Cup either. The youngster, who played his way into the hearts of Bayer Leverkusen fans at the age of 17, had been in doubt for some time due to his cruciate ligament rupture, but there was still a faint hope that Wirtz might make it.
However, this hope faded more and more and in the end he was not nominated by Hansi Flick.
Nmecha is also missing
Another loss in the attack involves Wolfsburg attacker Lukas Nmecha, who would also have been an important option for the German attack. However, a partial tear of the patella tendon in his right knee will keep the 23-year-old out of action for an extended period of time.
Flick will therefore have to make some changes to the width of the squad.

Unlucky Reus absent again
Dortmund´s star will be unable to play in Qatar due to an ankle injury. It also became clear surrounding Reus’ absence that other World Cup candidates will be missing. For example, Hoffenheim’s top performer Grischa Prömel, who suffered a broken ankle in a Bundesliga match.
Florian Neuhaus is missing due to a torn cruciate ligament and will not be able to play again until spring.
Klostermann gets a ticket to Qatar
It was important for Hansi Flick that Leipzig defender Lukas Klostermann would turn out to be fit. The solid defensive player was a doubt due to a torn syndesmosis ligament, but has now been fit just in time.

There are also no worries for Bayern veteran Thomas Müller, who had been struggling with hip problems lately, but will be fit without any problems before the start of the tournament.
Group opponents without many injuries
Only the Germans have such serious injury problems in Group E: Spain, joint group favorites with Germany, can draw on a full roster, although they have general problems in attack.
Japan will only have to do without Huddersfield player Yuta Nakayama, but can otherwise call on all their top players. Costa Rica can also rely on all their key players.
Germany wants to kick off the tournament with three points
The German national team starts the World Cup tournament with a match against Japan on 23 November. Flick’s team wants to make a head start against the Asians in order to build up pressure on Spain, whom they have to play on the second matchday.
Both Germany and Spain are among the wider circle of favorites for the 2022 World Cup, but not among the top favourites for the World Cup title. Germany have won four World Cup titles so far, while Spain have only won one.
